Restoring Baidoa’s Environment through Community Action
Restoring Baidoa’s Environment through Community Action
WAARA GREEN Organization (WGO) conducted a Baseline Field Assessment in April 2026 to understand the environmental challenges affecting Baidoa District and identify practical solutions for restoring degraded land and strengthening climate resilience. The assessment supports the implementation of the Baidoa Tree Planting Campaign 2026 and the Community Land Knowledge & Climate Resilience Initiative.
The assessment found that environmental degradation has intensified due to prolonged drought, deforestation, rapid urban growth, charcoal production, and unsustainable use of natural resources. Many schools, internally displaced persons (IDP) roadsides, and public spaces have little or no tree cover, exposing communities to extreme heat, soil erosion, and declining environmental quality.
